We are a small, friendly sketching group meeting around Penarth, Cardiff, and nearby places in South Wales. Bring a sketchbook, something to draw with, and come as you are.
What we do
Espresso Sketches Penarth is for people who like drawing from life, noticing places slowly, and spending time with other sketchbook people without pressure. Some sessions are outdoors. Some move into a cafe because this is Wales and rain has opinions.
You do not need to be a professional artist. The point is to look, draw if you want to, and spend time with other people who enjoy being around sketchbooks, places, and conversation.
What the meetings are like
The format is deliberately relaxed. You can arrive when you can, leave when you need to, draw whatever catches your eye, or not draw at all. Some people sketch trees, plants, streets, views, or each other. Some write, work on a laptop, sit with a coffee, or simply talk.
There is no checking, no pressure, and no formal teaching. The meetings are free and friendly, mostly here for the pleasure of being together and noticing the place we are in.
How to join
Bring simple materials
A sketchbook and pencil are enough, but any materials you enjoy are welcome. If we meet outside, bring something to sit on and clothes that make sense for Welsh weather.
Draw at your own pace
There is no formal lesson and no pressure to show anything. You do not have to draw the whole time either: you can sit with us, chat, read, write, or quietly do your own thing.
Where we meet
The exact place changes, but the rhythm is usually local: a park, a garden, a street corner, the seafront, or a cafe close enough to rescue everyone from rain.
